Adding chains to otherwise normal lifts is an old school bodybuilding technique that has stood the test of time. The links can simply add extra weight in moves like dips and pullups, or make balancing a barbell more difficult as you account for the shifting links.
The most interesting aspect of chain training is the way it affects lifts like squats and bench press. As you proceed through the movement, the added weight fluctuates as more of the chain lowers and lifts from the floor below
